Interior design and renovation of the Bijenkorf in Maastricht. The Bijenkorf is located together with the V&D department store in one building, previously occupied only by V&D. The designers focused on developing the most logical routing in the building given the number of entrances and connecting spaces between the floors; this has resulted in a convenient and spatial routing throughout the building. The design powerfully expresses the merchandising groups, both as single entities and in relation to each other. By using low and high ceiling elements and special effects of artificial lighting, the problems with the limited ceiling height have been minimized, resulting in an effective and open retail area.
